The hotel faces the city's marina, from which boat taxis can take you to the soft sandy beaches on the beautiful islands in the Ria Formosa Natural Park. The old town, much of which has been carefully restored, is close by. One of the most popular areas of downtown Faro, the traditional shopping streets and a choice of bars and restaurants, is on the doorstep. At the end of a hard day's work, or a gentle day's leisure, what could be nicer than enjoying a drink on the rooftop terrace, with its panoramic views over the historic city and out towards the ocean?

Within easy reach
The islands of the Ria Formosa and their white sandy beaches are a 15-minute boat ride away, Faro Island is a 15-minute drive. Within 25km there are 12 golf courses, including Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and Vilamoura. The trans-Algarve motorway, the Via do Infante, gives direct links to Lisbon (345km) and Seville (210km). Faro mainline railway station, with fast links to Lisbon and regular services along the Algarve, is less than 1km from the hotel. Main bus station 400m. Faro International Airport 7km, with direct flights to the main European capitals. Forum Algarve, a major shopping and leisure centre is just minutes away

Hotel Faro offers a courtesy shuttle boat operating several times daily. From July to mid-September there's a free trip by catamaran to Ilha Deserta (Desert Island) in the Natural Parque of Ria Formosa. You can spend a day on the beach with just the birds for company. This is Portugal's most southerly point and best kept secret: no cars and no houses
