Enigmatic, superbly presented two-storey villa in small town of Anha with local shops, restaurants and hypermarket on outskirts, about 10km south of Viana do Castelo, 2km from Amorosa and Cabedelo beaches and walking distance to cafe and mini-market. Golf at Ponte de Lima Golf (20km), Estela (35km) and Quinta da Barca (20km).
House is a on hillside with good sea views and upper and lower entrances, both through crenellated, medieval-style gateways. At the lower level, a long drive downwards into parking area then up reclaimed brick steps to excellent pool area with oval pool about 10x5m overall, depth 0.9-1.8m with steps in one end, lawned surround with inset cobbled features, tiled pool terrace and chalet-style games room with pool and football tables and arcade games. Augustinho is a striking mix of traditional and modern. Much granite used as balustrades, false balconies, and for main walls (cool in summer, warm in winter). Up stone steps to house and lawned area with barbecue and eating area, terrace with sea view, covered terrace along side of house and doors into kitchen and living room.
Kitchen is very well equipped with washing machine, gas/electric hob, built-under oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, plenty of work surfaces and storage. Through into living room with classic open fireplace, mixed tile and granite, wooden mantle over, then seating area with satellite TV, DVD and surround sound system, this high-tech immediately contrasting with votive shrine built into wall, beamed ceilings and quarry tiled floors. Also on ground floor separate dining room with traditional table, chairs and dresser and excellent full bathroom.
Upstairs to gallery off which second bathroom with shower cabinet and half-round bath; then 2 double bedrooms (sloping ceilings), one with traditional Portuguese bed with ornate head and foot and large wardrobe, then the other of course modern, with purpose-made double bed with built-in lighting and open clothes hanging and storage space. Both bedrooms have doors to false balconies overlooking pool and sea views. Open-tread wooden staircase to small roof terrace with granite balustrades and fine views over pantiled roofs.
Excellent quality and facilities and large enough for 2 extra people sleeping on bedsofa in living room. Peaceful, quiet area too. Linen (except beach/pool towels) provided. Maid service weekly and weekly linen change. Preferred arrival Saturday 1600, depart 1000. Other days by arrangement. Minimum booking 5 nights, except 7 mid-June to mid-September.
